Description
Naan bread is a soft, pillowy flatbread that elevates any meal. Perfect for scooping up curries or enjoyed on its own, this easy recipe brings warmth to your table.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- 1. Activate the Yeast: Combine warm water and sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
- 2. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center, add yogurt and the yeast mixture, then stir until combined.
- 3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the mixture to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4. Let It Rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, around 1 hour.
- 5. Shape & Cook: Punch down the dough, divide into 8 pieces, shape into balls, roll each into an oval about ¼ inch thick. Cook each naan on a preheated skillet over medium-high heat for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Notes
- Customize your naan by adding garlic or herbs for extra flavor.
- For healthier options, substitute part of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
