- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
- Add eggs to the mixture and mix until a dough forms; be careful not to overmix.
- In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
- Press half of the dough into the prepared pan as a base layer. Spread the apple mixture over it and crumble the remaining dough on top.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes until golden brown on top. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For added crunch, consider mixing in nuts or oats.
- Feel free to substitute Granny Smith apples with other tart varieties or even pears for different flavor profiles.
