Indulge in the delightful crunch of homemade graham crackers that are simple to prepare and far healthier than store-bought options. These golden-brown treats combine the nutty richness of whole wheat flour with just the right amount of sweetness from brown sugar and honey. Perfect for snacking, serving as a base for s’mores, or crumbling over yogurt, this recipe is a fantastic way to involve kids in the kitchen while creating cherished family memories. With minimal ingredients and straightforward steps, you’ll have a batch ready to enjoy in no time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold & cubed
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 34 tbsp water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep – Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Incorporate Butter – Cut cold butter into small cubes and add to the flour mixture. Blend with a pastry cutter or fingers until crumbly.
  4. Form the Dough – Stir in honey and water (1 tbsp at a time) until a dough forms.
  5. Roll & Cut – Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into squares or desired shapes.
  6. Bake – Transfer cut crackers to prepared baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  7. Cool & Store – Let crackers cool completely on wire racks before serving or storing.

Notes

  •  For added flavor, consider incorporating spices like cinnamon or nutmeg into the dough.
  •  Chill the dough if it’s too sticky while rolling out.
  •  Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
