Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
  • Chopped cilantro (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and sugar in a small bowl. Stir in the yeast and let it sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and yogurt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide it into equal portions, and roll each piece into an oval shape about ¼ inch thick.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Brush each warm naan with melted butter mixed with minced garlic and sprinkle with cilantro if desired.
