Description
Garlic naan is a soft, fluffy Indian flatbread infused with aromatic garlic, perfect for scooping up your favorite dishes or enjoying on its own.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
- Chopped cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by combining warm water and sugar in a small bowl. Stir in the yeast and let it sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and yogurt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide it into equal portions, and roll each piece into an oval shape about ¼ inch thick.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until bubbly and golden brown.
- Brush each warm naan with melted butter mixed with minced garlic and sprinkle with cilantro if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider incorporating herbs like cumin or spices such as paprika into the dough.
- Experiment by filling the naan with cheese before cooking for a delicious twist.
