Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and pat dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, minced garlic, ginger, and cornstarch. Marinate the chicken in this mixture for 15–30 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the marinated chicken until golden brown, about 6–8 minutes.
- Remove excess oil from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Stir in brown sugar and red pepper flakes until combined.
- Return the fried chicken to the skillet and add sesame oil. Toss until well-coated with sauce.
- Garnish with chopped green onions before serving hot over steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute chicken with tofu or shrimp.
- Add vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli for extra nutrition and crunch.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days; reheat in a skillet to maintain crispiness.
