Description

Baked falafel are crispy, flavorful chickpea patties that make a healthy snack or meal option. Pair them with fresh veggies for a delightful Middle Eastern-inspired feast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup fresh parsley, packed
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for coating
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (or gluten-free flour)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a food processor, combine chickpeas, parsley, garlic, cumin, baking powder, olive oil, and flour. Pulse until mixed but slightly chunky.
  2. Scoop out the mixture and shape it into small balls (about 1-1.5 inches wide).
  3. Lightly coat each ball with olive oil to enhance browning.
  4. Place the falafel on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider mixing in spices such as smoked paprika or lemon zest.
  •  Store leftover falafel in an airtight container for up to five days; reheat in the oven for crispiness.
