Description

St. Patrick’s Classic Irish Soda Bread is a quick and delightful treat, perfect for any occasion. Its warm, tender texture and buttery flavor will have everyone coming back for more.


Ingredients

  • ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup dried fruit (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven & Prep – Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add Wet Ingredients – Pour in buttermilk and melted butter, stirring gently until the dough just begins to come together.
  • Knead & Shape – Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently 5-6 times. Shape the dough into a round loaf and score an ‘X’ on top using a sharp knife.
  • Bake – Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes, until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Cool & Serve – Let the bread cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  •  For added sweetness, consider incorporating raisins or currants.
  •  Use whole wheat flour for a heartier texture.
  •  Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
