- ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups buttermilk
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup dried fruit (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven & Prep – Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add Wet Ingredients – Pour in buttermilk and melted butter, stirring gently until the dough just begins to come together.
- Knead & Shape – Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently 5-6 times. Shape the dough into a round loaf and score an ‘X’ on top using a sharp knife.
- Bake – Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes, until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Cool & Serve – Let the bread cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For added sweetness, consider incorporating raisins or currants.
- Use whole wheat flour for a heartier texture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
