Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil (plus more for drizzling)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm water and yeast; let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir until combined, then knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approximately 1-1.5 hours).
- Gently punch down the dough, transfer it to an oiled baking sheet, and use your fingers to create dimples.
- Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle herbs and salt on top, then let rest for 20 minutes as you preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider incorporating sun-dried tomatoes or olives into your dough.
- Store leftover focaccia in an airtight container for up to three days; reheat at 350°F for freshness.
