Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast over top. Let sit until bubbly (about 5 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and salt. Add olive oil and the activated yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled (around 1 hour).
- Punch down the risen dough, divide into equal portions, shape each into spheres with subtle grooves resembling pumpkin sections.
- Arrange shaped dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover lightly, and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- For added nutrition, consider substituting part of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
- Spice it up by mixing in ground cinnamon or nutmeg for a sweet twist.
- These bread bowls can be frozen unbaked; thaw and bake fresh when ready to enjoy.
