- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups whole milk (for custard)
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 cup high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat softened butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in milk and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients; divide batter into prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the custard, whisk together milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
- For the ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering; pour over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
- Assemble by layering custard between cooled cake layers and topping with warm ganache.
Notes
- You can substitute almond extract for vanilla in the custard for a unique flavor twist.
- Fresh fruit like strawberries can be added for decoration.
