Description

Boston cream pie is a classic dessert featuring fluffy vanilla custard layered between soft cake and topped with rich chocolate ganache. A perfect treat for any celebration!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups whole milk (for custard)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup high-quality chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat softened butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in milk and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients; divide batter into prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. For the custard, whisk together milk, cornstarch, sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
  6. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering; pour over chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
  7. Assemble by layering custard between cooled cake layers and topping with warm ganache.

Notes

  • You can substitute almond extract for vanilla in the custard for a unique flavor twist.
  • Fresh fruit like strawberries can be added for decoration.
