Description

Chicken Biryani is a flavorful, fragrant dish featuring tender chicken and aromatic spices, perfect for family dinners or special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups long-grain basmati rice
  • 500g boneless chicken thighs
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece ginger, minced
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 1 pinch saffron threads soaked in 2 tbsp warm water
  • ¼ cup cilantro leaves, chopped
  • ¼ cup mint leaves, chopped
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse basmati rice in cold water until it runs clear; soak for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine yogurt, garlic, ginger, and spices. Add chicken and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil or ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté onions until golden brown (about 10 minutes).
  4. Stir in tomatoes and salt; cook until soft (about 5 minutes).
  5. Add marinated chicken to the pot; cook until fully cooked (15–20 minutes).
  6. Gently fold in soaked rice with sufficient water for cooking; bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  7. Drizzle saffron-infused water over rice; fluff gently with a fork before serving.
