Ingredients

  • 45 medium Russet potatoes (about 2 pounds), thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (approximately 8 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and butter an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Slice the Russet potatoes to about 1/8 inch thick for even cooking.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until combined.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over them and sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheddar cheese.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.
