Description
Savor the rich flavors of these homemade black bean burgers that are healthy, satisfying, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp flaxseed meal mixed with 3 tbsp water for vegan option)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 whole grain or gluten-free burger buns
- Toppings: lettuce, tomato slices, avocado
Instructions
- Prepare your ingredients by chopping onion and mincing garlic. Mash the black beans in a large bowl until slightly chunky.
- Mix in sautéed onions, garlic, breadcrumbs, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and egg (or flaxseed mixture). Stir until well combined.
- Shape into 4 burger patties using about ½ cup of the mixture per patty. Ensure they are compact to avoid falling apart during cooking.
- Heat oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for about 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Assemble burgers on toasted buns with your choice of toppings like lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
Notes
- Chill patties in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before cooking to help them hold together better.
- For added flavor variations, consider incorporating diced jalapeños or swapping black beans for chickpeas.
