Description

Savor the rich flavors of these homemade black bean burgers that are healthy, satisfying, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp flaxseed meal mixed with 3 tbsp water for vegan option)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 whole grain or gluten-free burger buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato slices, avocado

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients by chopping onion and mincing garlic. Mash the black beans in a large bowl until slightly chunky.
  2. Mix in sautéed onions, garlic, breadcrumbs, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and egg (or flaxseed mixture). Stir until well combined.
  3. Shape into 4 burger patties using about ½ cup of the mixture per patty. Ensure they are compact to avoid falling apart during cooking.
  4. Heat oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for about 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Assemble burgers on toasted buns with your choice of toppings like lettuce, tomato, and avocado.

Notes

  • Chill patties in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before cooking to help them hold together better.
  •  For added flavor variations, consider incorporating diced jalapeños or swapping black beans for chickpeas.
